Berlin

So I have a little more time to explain Berlin now as no one is up zet (its 1050). So about half of our group took a 340am train to Berlin and the other half took a 6am... the 340 was a much better idea. We all went to the bar out by sOsagni which wass extremelllly cool. t was in an old factory so all the tables and lights etc were made out of parts from the old factorz... very original. We took the train and after and incident (dont even ask), we all made it to germany and got off at the wrongg stop.... yep.. and almost didnt get back on the train but we did so we finallz made it to berlins main stop....

after about an hour nin the train station trying to figure out where our hostel was we made it. it is extremlyyyy nice and is only costing 17 euros a night (we hate the euro=)... soo expensive compared to our currencyyy
all 30 of us went and got a private walking tour of berlin yesterdaz so taht was great... the guy was amaying... then we all went to bed and took a nap and then woke up and went to a pub crawl and had an amazing timeeee.....must go though will explain more later

Last few days

Hello everyone... haven't updated this in a few days and I now have some to do that...

So first off, classes have started and I finally feel like I actually live in the city. When we weren't doing anything productive during the first week, it really felt like we were on vacation but that has changed now. I am taking four classes, and three of them pretty much have all the same kids (Stern classes). The stern classes seem really good and the advertising class is extremely intersting. My OB professor is very cool and knows the low down on everything so hes good help. My lit class on the other hand, well shoot me... Its going to be terrible. I had it last night and just sighhhhh... haha Lit is just not my thing. She was so enthusiastic about the Czech history etc and that is just another subject which im not good at either haha. So I really need to figure out my phones alarm cause I have mis-set it like three times and been late already so thats not good. Oh and Mom, you will be glad I am not taking Czech because the professor has brought beer for the kids every class so far. They really are on a different level with beer here... its crazy. The professors will talk about beer at least once during every class...

So we have been doing some more exploring and restraunt hopping... We have seen a lot of the monuments and touristy sections of prague so we are getting around. The area that the school is in is just gorgeous and in probably the most expensive two blocks of prague.... The buildings are extremeeeeelllyyyy nice with great furnature, couches, great hang out areas, etc. Dad, every classroom has a 3 2 1 in it for playing music etc. So you get the point, its nice. I saw the Astronomical clock today... wow that is a piece of work especially considering it was made in the 13th century. On the hour, there are little doors that open and things pop out of them... quite nice but there are ALWAYS tourists there (god tourists are terrible :) ) haha.

So last night we went to dinner at a Pizzeria (they are huge on Italian food here) and as always it was fantastic. Everyone went out last night, found a realllyyyyyyyy cool bar and then we went to the club. At each table, there was four taps, you just clicked your button, pulled any of the taps, and it measured how much you drank so everyone can pay individually. Apparently that was a chain, so on the wall was a screen showing how much each table has drank and also who drank the most in what restraunt in a few differnt countries. We didn't even make it onto that restraunts top 15...

This morning, I was late because my alarm wasn't set to on... so ran out the door, without keys, went to the metor, and went the wrong direction....... yeppp so then i was even later haha so that was bad.... then trying to get into my room was interesting as I had to get the guard to open it etc. Then my phone was out of minutesss and I tried to refill it but that didn't work because it said my number wasn't valid.... great... but I just went to the store and got it all set now so I am a person again :)

Tonight we are going to go out until our train tonight at 315 to BERLIN....NYU basically took over 2 complete hostels there so thats going to be amusing. We are working on more trips and I am working on a ski trip to Austria. One of the major problems we are finding is that Prague really doesn't have cheap flights.... only two discount airlines fly to prague and they don't go to many places...... also when we find good fares, the taxes are generally 3-4 times the actaul fare................... sooo yea

As for spring break, we are working on a 10 day Medertteranean cruise going to Spain, italy, greece, canary islands, egypt and one other country.......... soooooooo that will be fun

All is good from Prague and will blog from/about Berlin.....

Last few days

Ok so a lot has happened since last updating...

First off, Weds night was one of my top 5 college nights. It has become known as Mecca Wednesdays and I have a feeling that it is going to be a great night for us. On Weds, we had a littler party in Machova and then all went wondering off to Osagni. Like the website said, that part of town is definitely an industrial section of town so I am very glad that I am living in Praha 2. It took an extremely long time to get there. Our metro stop is about 3/4 a mile, then we had to take it one stop, change, and then one more stop. After a 15 minute walk, we finally got there. Very very glad I don't have to do that every day. We went to a club called Mecca which had no cover on Weds and had an amazing time. It was two floors, techno on the top and bring back songs on the bottom. Out of 130 kids, there were at least 100 of us there having a great time so it was a good way to meet people, dance, drink, and have an outrageous time. Everyone agreed that it was the best thing we have been to here yet. Oh and another Perk, we got to see the sun rise on the taxi ride home haha..... That was the only time we have seen the sun since being here but apparently that is what it is going to be like for the next month and a half :( ... but all is good!

Yesterday was a much calmer day. After only 20 people in the entire program went to Czech class, a group of us went to the train station and picked up tickets for Berlin. About 20 of us are taking a group next weekend to Berlin and all staying in the same Hostel etc... So that will be amusing also. We went bowling last night as a group and took it easy last night as we had to register for trips this morning at 8 am..... very un-necessary to make it that early but not much you can do.

Today, I signed up for three trips. One trip is to the World Cup of Ski Racing, one is to a town in Czech that has some amazing sights and caves, and another is a hike up the tallest mountain here... I finally started taking pictures so I will upload them in an hour or so.... they will be on www.flickr.com pw:parkskiit password: password

We have found some fantastic places to eat so that is also good :)

Dayyy two

So wanted to update you all as its 7am and I still have not adjusted completely to the time zones... but working on it...

So after I posted last time, the entire program went out, took over a restraunt, had some pizza and beer and all hung out... After a drink or two, our RA's told us about a local bar/club that was close and easy to get to so about ten of us all headed over there from Machova... It was apparently the only hip hop club in the city and we all had a really good time.... As I was leaving, I went looking for my Spiders long sleave shirt and it was gone........... soooooooo it was a very long walk back at 3 in the morning without a coat.... little did I know that one girl in my group accidently picked it up with her scarf... soooo I have it back which is good... We all went to bed at around 3-4 after only about an hour of sleep sooooo it was a long day...

Yesterday we had a crash course in all the NYU rules, general history of the country, etc. We were shown around where our school is and some of the local squares and shops around (although its going to take a while to figure it all out because.... the tourist section (where NYU academic buildings are) is quite big and has lots to offer)... We took the metro back although we plan on getting lost today and figureing out how to walk it... Got my cell phone sim card today so that now works and the number is

(420)775-257-340 where the 420 is the country code... OH and interesting story about that... have you ever tried to live for two days without knowing basically ever what time it is other than when you are sitting at a computer? I don't recommend it.... It turns out that my USA cell phone has 0 bars here, meaning it doesn't know the time, and my unlocked phone wouldn't get past the original screen without a sim card... SO I had no watch for two days like basically everyone else so getting up on time and making meetings at the right time, was not the easiest thing to do. The one watch I brought with me happened to be out of battery so that wasn't helpful either haha.

So last night, about 15 of us went to a locals bar (no not herna mom) and had a drink, talked and played pool. We all got back at about 130 and all went to bed... My bed is now comfortable with a new pillow :) but of course I'm still to tall....

So Machova has some things that I didn't originally know about... First off, we have a backyard with grass and a grill... Secondly, everyfloor has at least one balcany on it to go out on which is nice.... The building is 7 floors and im thankfully living on the third floor and not all the way up.. The study room is techically on the 7th and has a very big terrace outside. The windows are huge, and the room is high enough to see over all the other buildings and has a spectacular view of the city. The TV room is down in the basement (so I guess there are really 8 floors) but is really secluded but it does have satelite TV with some programs in English so that is a plus.. My dorm room really isn't small, definatelly smaller than Richmond, but all the NYU students say it is bigger than their rooms in NYC so there is nothing to complain about... My roomate... is very different. He is very anti-social, stays to himself, reads all day, and stayed for only about 2 minutes at the bar yesterday. Just as a baseline, he brough a bowl, lollypops, poperee (the dried flower things), shells, and pictures of flowers from the states. Interesting.

Anyway, things are good. We all still have not realized that we actaully have to go to school yet here but ... we do. I have to go shower but will write again and probably take/post pictures on Flickr soon.

First Day

Helllo alllllllll

So I am going to try to keep this update but who knows.

So first day... its been a long one... a very long one. Left Btown at around 430 on a hugeee 747 full of people. I didn't have anyone next to me on the flight but there on my left there was a painter who was flying back to Egypt because no one was buying houses and on the other side was a Harvard music professor. the harvard professor bought three seats for herself, one for her, one for her stuff, and one for her String bass... yea three seats.. ok moving on... Only took 6:05 to Frankfurt which is astonishing.... We were all amazed but when we landed in Frankfurt it was very obvious that we were the first flight of the morning. We got off our plane and followed the signs to where our next plane was supposed to be... We landed in a "Island Terminal" which you had to take a tram to get back to the major terminal... BUT since it was 515 in the morning, the tram hadn't even started running yet.... So our entire plane sat around on the platform for 20 minutes until the automated train started running...

Walked a long way (Frankfurt airport is HUGE) and went to get into the customs line... but wait its now only 545... and customs doesn't open until 6! So yes more waiting for it to open... When customs finally did open, they didn't accept my passport for a good 5 minutes..... Don't know why it just wasn't working for them.... Nerveracking (but I was with 20 Tufts kids going to Madrid and I found some NYU kids too) We finally cleared customs, went through security and walked towards our gate. At the first security, no problem. Due to construction, we had to leave the secure area and go through security again... They then thought I had some explosive in my backpack as they ran it through the xray 3 times, then hand search, then the bomb sniffing machine... yep....

Finally got to our gate, had a 2 hour layover, and due to our body clocks, it was 12am est.... (6 local) sooo we all went to the pub for a drink... Finally got on our plane to prague, landed, everyone but one girl got all their bags and went to walk through customs (which didn't exist, it was just one random guy sorta walking around). SO obviously I am the only one out of a group of 30-40 that he checks and looked at my passport.... God... (At least I didn't get puked on like some other girl coming from JFK!)

Then we got on taxi/small busses and came to Machova where I am nowww just exploring.... We are having Pizza soon so I must go but update soon!
